our values

Our values reflect what we deem important to us. We will only do what we value. Everything we do at the Vineyard is filtered through these values:

  • We value the pursuit of God. We seek God and wait expectantly for His presence in all that we do (John 4:34, 5:19-20).

  • We value Christ likeness. We desire that Jesus' love, mercy, truth, purity, power, and integrity shine through all that we do.

  • We value being Spirit-led. We honor Jesus as our Head and the Holy Spirit as our Counselor. We seek to be responsive to the Holy Spirit in life and ministry.

  • We value discipleship. We aim first to grow personally in the disciplines of Christ and, secondly, to make disciples, calling others into those same practices.

  • We value the Kingdom of God. We aim to move in the signs of the present fulfillment of the Kingdom, invoking the Spirit's powerful presence, ministering through the Spirit's gifts, and seeing God heal and work wonders.

  • We value the mercy of God. We believe that mercy is fundamental to all that God does in salvation. We, therefore, aim to extend mercy to one another and to all to whom we minister without crossing over the line into "unsanctified mercy" (1 Samuel 15:10-33).

  • We value integrity. It is important for us to speak truth, deal honestly, and live uprightly.

  • We value servant leadership. We believe that Christ has put significant leadership authority in the hands of the pastor and his associates. We aim to exercise that authority with humility, selflessness, grace, care for the sheep, and sincere desire to build up the Body of Christ.

  • We value unity. We are convinced that all who belong to Christ are one in His Body, the Church. We aim to maintain unity by honoring all who call upon Jesus' name and by seeking reconciliation with all parts of the church.

  • We value collegiate relationship. We are honored by every person whom God adds to the Vineyard, yet we do not recruit from other churches. We aim to work together with other local congregations to build the church through maintaining mutual respect, open communication, determined cooperation, and through believing and speaking the best about each other.

  • We value reality. We aim to walk in the Spirit and see real supernatural works of God. We aim also to function on the natural plane based on God's leading and excellent, rational thinking.

  • We value simplicity. We wish to do nothing for "religious effect" but rather to operate in natural low-key, "non-hype" patterns.

  • We value being "culture-current". We desire to present the unchanging, timeless Gospel in a form that is relevant to the people of our generation. We reflect this through worship music that is of popular style. We aim to develop an atmosphere of ease and to speak, act, and dress in ways to which our generation can respond positively.

  • We value brokenness and humility. Knowing our poverty of spirit and helplessness is the first step toward knowing God and His resources. Therefore, we are not ashamed of being broken but, rather, see it as a part of the process of becoming whole.

  • We value wholeness. Jesus came to redeem the whole person, therefore in the same way we value wholeness: spiritually, emotionally, physically, and socially. Ministry to the whole person is our opportunity to be instruments of God's love and power.

  • We value genuineness. It is vital that we be real and authentic people. Therefore, we turn away from acting "religious." Rather, we desire to express ourselves honestly. In the arena of genuineness we can grow without trying to impress God or others.

  • We value relationships. Scripture tells us that as believers we are joined by Christ in one body. Therefore we believe that the investment of our lives into the lives of other people is of utmost importance. We desire to cultivate intimacy with God and with others.

  • We value risk-taking. Risk-taking is the expression of our faith as we minister to others and obey the Lord. We understand that there will be mistakes and failures along the way, but the only true failure is never to have tried. In an environment of acceptance and mercy, risk-taking is encouraged.

  • We value commitment. In this world it is difficult to find commitment to anything. We, however, must fully commit our lives (time, energy, and resources) to following Jesus Christ and His commands, both in the context of our personal relationship with Him and in the context of the local church.
