The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
Luke 4:18, 19 (ESV)
This scripture is not only the mission statement of Jesus, but it is the mission statement of the His church. We believe that Jesus loves the Greater New Haven area! We want to impact and transform our community by proclaiming the good news of God’s Kingdom and demonstrating His love through serving the poor, oppressed, sick, broken, and addicted.
There are a number of ways we seek to show God’s love to those around us. We are active in ministry at Leeway, a long-term care facility for people living with HIV/AIDS in New Haven. We are on the board of directors of WHEAT, a local West Haven food bank, and are partnering with Christian Community Action with their Stepping Stone program to provide transitional housing to help families get back on their feet. We also have different outreaches during the year that reach out into our community, such as Community Safety Day, an annual community Easter Egg Hunt and different neighborhood parties.
In addition these outreaches, we are involved with many smaller opportunities to show God’s love in a practical way, from drink giveaways to neighborhood trash pick-ups.
Watch the "What's Happening" page to find out how you can be involved in reaching our communities with God's love.
